We heard from so many of you last week about how much you’re enjoying discovering new spots around town, so please keep the recs coming!

This week we’ve got a woman-owned plant-and-coffee shop, a few properties turning heads, and a pup named Nora who’s ready to find her people.

Oh, and about a dozen fall events you won’t want to miss. Let’s get into it.

In today’s Scoop:

  • 🚋 Share Your Streetcar Say

  • 🩷 Pink Troopers on Patrol

  • 🍕 Detroit Pie, Plant Vibes

  • 👻 Runs, Riffs & Autumn Fun

🍕 Crispy, Cheesy, Square-Cut Heaven on Wheels

522 1/2 S 24th St, Omaha, NE

If you’ve never had Detroit-style pizza, Izzy’s Pizza Bus will ruin you for all the rest. The crust is thick yet airy, edged with that caramelized cheese crown everyone raves about.

Locals swear by the Red Harvest, with its perfect balance of sweet, salty, and spicy, but the seasonal specials like Millions of Peaches or Figgy Stardust are where the creativity shines. It’s tiny, cozy, and always buzzing: worth every minute of the wait. Learn more here.

🪴 Greenhouse Vibes, Coffeehouse Energy

2452 1/2 Harney St, Omaha, NE

Nodest Home Plants is part jungle, part hangout, and all heart. This woman-owned plant shop doubles as a soil bar and shares space with Bad Seed Coffee, so you can sip a latte while picking out your next leafy roommate.

Expect funky 60s/70s vibes, classes, and the friendliest plant pros around (owner Shannon is a legend). Warning: you’ll go in for “just a look” and leave with arms full of green treasures. Learn more here.

🚋 Omaha Streetcar Wants Your Input

Photo from ometro.com

The Gist: Omaha’s new streetcar, set to roll out in 2028, is asking residents to help shape its brand and logo. A short online survey is open now through Tuesday, Oct. 7, and takes just a few minutes to complete. Officials say the brand will guide the streetcar’s personality, tone, and overall look.

Why it matters: The streetcar will be a signature part of downtown Omaha’s identity, and neighbors have a chance to influence how it represents the city. The final brand will be unveiled at year’s end. Take the survey here.

🩷 Troopers wear pink for cancer awareness

Photo from X - Nebraska State Patrol

The Gist: Nebraska State Patrol troopers are swapping out their regular shoulder patches for pink ones this October as part of the nationwide Pink Patch Project. The effort raises money for Nebraska’s Hereditary Cancer Foundation, with patches sold for $10 at patrol offices in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Grand Island, North Platte, and Scottsbluff.

Why it matters: The campaign honors those fighting cancer while helping fund local support. Patches are available all month, and troopers will wear them through October. Read more here.

Meet Nora, a 4-month-old German Shepherd with paws as big as her personality.

Born February 2025, she’s equal parts smarty-pants and goofball, happily chewing toys, learning the ropes of house training, and winning over every dog she meets (though her playful style is best matched with bigger buddies).

This kennel-trained cutie is growing fast and looking for a home with room to run and humans who love a little puppy mischief.
