💙 Omaha Lights Up Teal for Alzheimer’s Awareness

The Gist: Six Omaha landmarks glowed teal this week as part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Light the World in Teal campaign. The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, Rose Theater, Bridges Trust, Physicians Mutual, Brighton Gardens, and Bellevue University’s admin building all joined the effort to honor the 35,000 Nebraskans living with Alzheimer’s.

Why It Matters: The city’s bright show of support helps spark conversation,
compassion, and hope for families affected by Alzheimer’s across Nebraska.

🦧 Baby on the Way at Henry Doorly Zoo

The Gist: Big news from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium: Ruby, a 26-year-old Bornean orangutan, is expecting her first baby in February 2026. The father, Denda, joined the zoo in 2024 with the opening of the reimagined Hubbard Orangutan Forest.

Why It Matters: It’s the first orangutan pregnancy at the zoo in more than a decade, marking an important milestone for conservation of this critically endangered species. Guests can visit Ruby in the Orangutan Forest and follow her journey. Read more here.

Pepper is a gentle, velvety-soft bunny with a calm presence.

This handsome adult rabbit can make any room feel peaceful. He is neutered, vaccinated for RHDV, and fully litter trained. He enjoys being petted when approached with a quiet hand and will happily sit with you once he feels safe.

Pepper is looking for a loving home where he can enjoy fresh greens and cozy naps.
