A quick thank you to everyone who keeps sharing this newsletter with friends and neighbors. The Scoop keeps growing every week, and it is fun seeing more people around town recognizing it.

This issue is packed with good local stories. A new late night spot just opened on Ames Avenue, there is a reunion story involving a cat that disappeared fifteen years ago, and the St. Patrick’s parade is ready to roll through the Old Market.

Not a bad lineup for a mid March week.

In today’s Scoop:

🍀 Hand-patted burgers and neighborhood bagpipes

4503 Center St, Omaha, NE

Paddy McGown’s is the place to land once the downtown parade winds down on March 14th. The kitchen stays busy prepping stacks of corned beef and cabbage dinners, though those signature Reuben egg rolls are the real move if you're just looking for a snack.

It’s a cash-only setup for the big day on the 17th, with doors opening at 7:00 AM for anyone ready to start the celebration early with a hot bowl of homemade Irish potato soup.

🎷 A fresh stage for soulful nights

3927 Ames Ave, Omaha, NE

Dreamland Lounge just opened its doors on Ames Avenue, bringing a much-needed rhythm to the block right next to Southern Spoon. The space captures that classic North Omaha spirit, where the clink of a cocktail glass settles perfectly against live jazz and R&B.

The lighting stays low and the conversation flows easily, whether you are stopping in for a quick drink or staying for the full set. The music starts early this Friday, with Broc Hempel taking the piano bench.

Looking for a soft place to land after work? Happy hour runs from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday through Sunday. It is truly a proud new addition to our neighborhood!

🤝 A Helping Hand for Our Lexington Neighbors

The Gist The Sherwood Foundation has stepped forward with a $1.1 million gift to support those transitioning after the Tyson plant closure. Managed by Lutheran Family Services, this relief provides $500 one-time payments to help individuals cover immediate needs while they look for their next chapter. The funding also strengthens the local team that has already guided over 1,000 people through job searches and unemployment claims.

Why It Matters This support is about more than just a check. It is about honoring the hard work of our neighbors and helping them stay rooted right here in the community they love. Registration for the relief fund opened earlier this week on March 9. If you or someone you know was affected by the January closure, please reach out to the Lexington Lutheran Family Services office to schedule an appointment.

🐈 A long-awaited homecoming

The Gist After disappearing fifteen years ago, a cat named Muffy has finally returned to her Omaha family. A neighbor brought the cat to the Nebraska Humane Society in late February, where a quick microchip scan revealed her identity and contact details. Her owners now have the closure they sought since she first ran away in 2011.

Why It Matters This reunion reminds us how a small bit of technology can bring a loved one home, even after a decade apart. The Nebraska Humane Society is hosting a low cost microchip and vaccine clinic on Saturday, March 14, at noon.

🐾 Aida - A Potatah is a loyal five-year-old Vizsla and Terrier mix.

This medium-sized companion is known for her love of sunbathing and riding shotgun on long car drives. While she is house-trained and wonderful with children, she prefers to be the only pet in the home.

Her $250 adoption fee through NALA Rescue covers her spay and vaccinations. Aida is a resilient, affectionate soul ready to trade her foster life for a permanent spot on your couch.
